Right Man

A theory of human behavior which originated with science fiction author A.E. Van Vogt and was developed by Colin Wilson in his "Criminal History of Mankind."

In Wilson’s view, the "Right Man" represents a psychological type who is, at the core, brittle, fragile and empty. Lacking a fundamental identity of his own, he is obsessed with the need for status and authority, and incapable of admitting to error or weakness under any circumstances.

"Right Men" are so weak and so easily threatened that their behavior is often dangeorus and unpredictable; like all bullies, the "Right Man hates losing face; if he suspects that his threats are not being taken seriously, he is capable of carrying them out, purely for the sake of appearances…"
